Imperial Sand Dunes--Glamis

When you haven't blogged in a while you forget to upload your pictures backwards so they will be from beginning to end. These pictures are way out of order and I don't care enough to fix it. Rob and I, at the end of March and the start of April, went to the Glamis sand dunes with my family. It was a VERY long drive! First there was 12 hours to Fresno, Cali to meet up with my family, then we drove another 6-7 hours south to the dunes. They are right by the border of Mexico. We were gone for a little over a week. It was kind of a graduation trip for me since I had just finished my last test the day we left. We had a lot of fun but there are a few adjustments we would make the next time we go. Maybe I will explain that later....for now, here are the pictures from our trip.

This was mid-week. It was hot and we were very dirty...Jason and Garry decided to do some "Sunnin"

I was hanging out in my tent and looked out my front door to see this!

Towards the end of the week. Rob's hair is DUUURTY! I will explain the bandage later.

This is the guys before we left Fresno.

We had to go to an air field to buy gas. It was so weird to see airplanes fueling up while we were. ha!

Us the day we left our campground. This is the sign that goes into the campground.

Garry Jr, me, and Jason. This was towards the end of the trip. I think this was one of the times that someone ran out of gas and we were waiting for a refill.

I pretty much took all the footage and because of that there are very few pictutes of me actually riding. So here is proof that I actually did ride. I love Jason's quad (that's what I am riding).

Me riding a bowl.

Self taken while I was filiming the guys. I love the reflection in my goggles.

Another Self taken....with the helmet that saved my life! Thanks Carrie!

Rob. I love this picture. I think it is so beautiful. Glamis has over 40 miles of crazy dunes. I wish you could see how steep these hills were but the contrast was hard to show.

This is call Oldsmobile Hill. It is VERY VERY steep. Thos of you that have been to sand mountain...I think this is higher and steeper...

Where's Jen? There she is.

This is the shops you see when you pull in. These people live there year round out of their trailers. It looks so weird to have this little row of shops out in the middle of nowhere.

It got SO windy!

You HAD to wear goggles or your eyeballs we basically get pelted with sand going 30 mph. While we were there they had a couple severe wind storm advisories.

It felt like you could lean forward and the wind would hold you up.

Tammie finally getting away from the camp for a short hike. I am sure that her legs got exfoliated from the strong wind and sand!

Garry doing a one armed push-up. He actually broke his clavicle on the second day. I told him that I thought that he might have a hairline fracture but he didn't want to go into the ranger station or hospital so he stuck it out the WHOLE WEEK with a broken clavicle. I did make him a sling that he wore around sometimes. WHAT A TUFF GUY!

I feel brave for putting pictures of me up with no make-up and no shower for like a week. Everyone was laughing at the static electricity.

At one point, the wind got so bad that we all huddled in the food tent to hang out.

This was my hand after mine and Jason's infamous wreck. The one where I seriously could have died. I had plenty of huge bruises and my hand was way swollen and wouldn't grip for a few days. Don't fret...I still got plenty of riding in and I am perfectly fine.

Garry Jr.

No matter how much sunscreen he put on...he still got burned.

Rob caught some major air.

So we went on this trail ride. There were tracks to follow and everything. Then we saw this sign and thought that maybe it wasn't a great idea to be riding there....

We were, however, smart enough to stop and take time to get pictures before we left.

dare devils we are.

Me...lets go already guys!

Now Im on the Grizzly....this is the one that rolled over me.

Ok...here it is. The spot that Jason and I wrecked and his 600+ lb Grizzly rolled over the top of me. In the background between our head is the lip that we hit (you can see the tracks in the sand). It launched us off the grizzly we both tried to run and get out of the way cause we knew it was rolling. Jason was able to get out of the way but when I jumped off I wasn't as lucky. The sand was so deep (When I jumped down on it the sand reached mid-calf) that when I tried to run out of the way, I tripped and face planted. The Grizzly rolled over my whole body. The sand was soft enough that it took a lot of the weight. It hit my back, head, and forearms. Most of the weight of the Grizzly landed on my head. If I wasn't wearing a helmet, I am sure that I would have been dead or seriously injured. While it was rolling over me, Jason was running back up the hill to get to me (he got lauched off further down the hill). Needless to say, it was a scary experience for both Jason and I.

Rob on one of our trips into town. We would try to wash up in the walmart bathroom (haha ghetto, I know but you have to do what you can when you are camping), get slurpies at 7-11, and then maybe a scratch card for fun. Haha.

Jason is very handy and put together this shade. It was VERY useful.

There was a bathroom that was by our camp...but not really close. They would clean it and when the wind would blow our direction, we would get a bad whiff. This is Garry laughing while covering his nose.

Jason couldn't handle the smell but it looks like it didn't bother Brandyn.

Bryson must not have caught the nasty whiff.

Chillin in the shade Jason made. We would wake up early and ride in the cool air, then hang out for a bit in the afternoon and then we would ride again. Basically we were riding all the time, except when we ate.

So random...there was an ice cream person that would drive around everyday selling ice cream and popcicles. I am sure that they make a lot of money cause it was hot and nice to get a popcicle but it was so weird to see this.

Jason taking Tammie on a ride.

Goofy picture of us at our camp.

We were the odd ones out cause everyone one had nice camping trailers. We were the only ones in tents. That is one thing I would change is to have a nice camper. It would have helped a lot with the wind that we battled everyday.

Some of these might be repeats but I don't care. I would say we had enough firewood...wouldn't you?

Brothers

First day there. Rob went off a jump and his chin came down into the handle bars. I clean it really good and spent the rest of the trip cleaning it and bandaging it. It was a good thing that I brought my first aid kit cause I used it a lot. I think almost everyone had some sort of accident, but nothing too major (aside from Garry's clavicle). So I spent a lot of time bandaging wounds and cleaning them and giving something for swelling and pain.

Almost all ready to get on the road.

Yes we had a lot of stuff! The second thing I would change about this trip is that Rob and I had our own quads. My brothers were nice enought to let us ride theirs all the time but it would have been really nice to have our own. I think, after Rob's truck, we are getting quads. So you guys should be friends with us and we might let you ride them.

Garry Jr. "helping"..hahah I keed I keed. He really did help.

And that was our Glamis trip. I think Rob and I are going to try to get our own stuff to go next time. And maybe we will try Pismo Beach since we haven't been there yet. I am sure that there is tons more stuff that I can tell you about the trip but I am sick of typing...so thats it. I have my graduation and new job to blog about. So keep an eye out for those.

Happy Birthday to MEEEE!

OK so my birthday was in March but a lot has been going on and my camera is still broken so I haven't updated my blog. Rob threw me a little party at my brother's house. He and my brother decorated and picked out everything! I loved it! He made me feel so special!

I had to wear this the whole time..please note the decorations in the background. Rob had a few more pictures on his phone of people there and the decorations but I didn't have time to transfer them.

As always, my sister made a yummy dinner for us all!

Wow that's a lot of candles on that cake!
Thanks Rob for all the ways you make me feel special!

Colors Festival

So a while back Rob, Rich, Ashley, and I all went to the Hare Krishna Colors Festival. It celebrates the arrival of spring and the passing of winter. There were tons a people there and a band that played all different tunes with the same three words as lyrics...Hare, Krishna, and Rama. Not in that particular order. They had Vegan food...which sadly I didn't get to try. Directly from their website : "It is a festival that breathes an atmosphere of social merriment. People bury their hatchets with a warm embrace and throw their worries to the wind. Every nook and corner presents a typically colorful sight. Young and old alike are covered with colors (red, green, yellow, blue, black and silver). People in small groups are seen singing, dancing and throwing colors on each other." So there you have it... you should check it out. It was pretty fun.

Not even half the crowd.
